The Los Angeles Clippers will look to get back on track tonight, coming off of back-to-back losses for the first time since the first week of the season. The Clippers will have a chance to get back in the win column as they take on the Denver Nuggets for the third time this season. However, when the Clippers look across the court at their opponent, the Nuggets will look much different than they did during the first two meetings.
The Denver Nuggets have been hit by a rash of injuries, depleting their normally deep lineup. The Nuggets have been without starters Danilo Gallinari and Nene, and are also missing Rudy Fernandez. To add on, Point Guard Ty Lawson sprained his ankle in the Nuggets game Monday against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gallinari is out for tonight's game, while Nene, Fernadez, and Lawson are all day-to-day, although none of them are expected to suit up tonight.
The Clippers, who have been no stranger to injuries this year, or any year for that matter, will look to take advantage of the short-handed Nuggets and break back into the win column after consecutive disappointing losses to the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors respectively. Clippers forward Blake Griffin was upset with the team's effort in the loss to the Warriors and vocalized his feelings following the 104-97 loss on Monday night:
"This one hurt, and it should hurt. We can't coast the whole game and expect to win at the end. We need to play with a better sense of urgency."
If the Clippers can bounce back and get back in the win column tonight, they would improve to 20-11 on the season. It took the Clippers 52 games to get to 20 wins last season.
Tonight's game is the Clippers' final game before the All-Star break. The Clippers will gladly welcome the rest, as they will have six days off before their next game, February 28th, at home vs. Minnesota. The Clippers will then go out on their second six-game road trip of the season.
Tonight's game will be played at 7:30pm and can be seen on Prime Ticket and heard on KFWB 980am.
